In Ontario, the rear windows do not have any limitations, they can technically be painted.
The 2 front windows cannot be darker then a 70% tint to pass a safety inspection. This very light tint will already be embedded inside the glass, meaning no more tint can be applied to the front windows to legally pass a safety.
Yet, dealerships in Ontario are allowed to sell tint on the 2 front windows to their customers. (After a safety has been obtained) Because of this, ticketing for tint is very much a grey area and is generally left up to officer discression.
Ontarios website says that 30% darkness is allowed on the 2 front windows. Tint manufactures do not grade tint on darkness, but on how much light is transmitted.
This means that when the Ontario website says 30% darkness, they really mean a 70% tint.
